2012 was a Very Busy Year on the Homestead

- Such joy to have eliminated the dirt & dust that we and the beagles brought into the house.  Now if I can also eliminate the dust blows in by the wind.  Pulling weeds is a never ending projects.  In 2013 we will put in a sprinkler system in the front & side yards
- Now Betty Sue & Billy Bob have a 4000 Sq Ft fenced in yard.  Billy longs to have free range of the whole back yard.  I let the out when I work in the veggie & Flower gardens.
- We (OK mostly Hubby) completed the construction of the 20 raised bed in early 2012.  I was able to get the Victory Garden planted.  But didn't have much victory mostly disappointment.  Discovered too late in the game that I had not been watering deeply enough.  Hope I have better luck in 2013.  Hope spring eternal for baseball teams and my garden.
- Grew so weary of walking on the dirt/mud pathways, so we had 12 Cu Ft of gravel delivered.  We laid down landscape fabric and added gravel on top.  The gravel pathways around the shop, to the alley, and around the raised beds are a great addition.  In 2013 will add a bit more gravel in front of the shop and under the wooden fence gates.
What's planned for 2013?
  • We've already contracted with Jerry Morehead of Texas Lawn Irrigation Co to put in a sprinkler system in the front & side yards.  The project was completed in January 2013.  We started watering weekly mid-March.
  • The order of table grapes should arrive after Christmas 2012.  So I'll start a small vineyard.  Do you call a plot growing table grapes a vineyard?  Doc McPherson gave me a list of grapes to buy.  It will take a while before we enjoy the fruits of the vine.
  • I plan to add a rose garden to the Iris River garden and to the Butterfly garden
  • I would like to start a fruit orchard
  • I plan to scatter wildflower & grass seed in the areas around the shop and maybe the narrow strip of land on the east side of the fence.  Nature will have to provide the rain to keep them going.
