What I've Learned about Beagles |
-
Beagles are a gentle, sweet, lively and
curious breed.
-
When socialized, Beagles love everyone!
They are happy little tail-wagger! Billy Bob was not socialized and is
fearful of strangers. He puts on a good show of bravery, but his instinct is to run
away.
-
Personality vary - Betty is calm while Billy is very
nervous.
|
-
Most people say they are good with
children and other dogs. I can't attest to that, our beagles haven't experienced
children. Betty & Billy barked at the neighbors dogs through the fence.
However they did except my sister's dog as part of their pack.
-
Bob hated the squirrels and would howl at
them when they dared enter his backyard. Betty & Billy aren't bothered by them. We
have no trees on our Lubbock property, therefore, no squirrels.
|
|
-
Beagles certainly do have a mind of their
own. When Bob wanted to smell something on his walks, he'd slam on the breaks and he
could not be budged. They come a running if they think FOOD is involved, otherwise
they will come at their own good time.
-
They are watchful and pay attention to
new sounds.
|
-
Billy and Betty were happier together.
They didn't like being left behind. It is a real trick to get only one of them in the van for a vet
appointment and to get the other one to
stay behind. Their is jubilation to see the other when we return from the vet.
-
Both Betty & Billy like to sing. If
one started the other will chime in.
-
They follow the scent - no matter where
it lead them. Therefore they can not be off leash.
