A few years ago Gurney’s was sold to a much larger direct mail oriented company, Foster and Gallagher. A Little while after, Foster and Gallagher declared bankruptcy, unfortunately putting thousands of people out of work, and leaving tens of thousands of loyal Gurney’s customers with no place to turn. A group of lifelong mail order gardeners bought Gurney’s at a bankruptcy hearing a few months later, and, with your help, we’ll restore it to the glory days of old.

Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization that is saving “heirloom” (handed-down) garden seeds from extinction. SSE’s 8,000 members grow and distribute heirloom varieties of vegetables, fruits, grains, SSE’s main focus is on heirloom varieties that gardeners and farmers brought to North America when their families immigrated, and traditional varieties grown by Native Americans, Mennonites and Amish. Since SSE was founded in 1975, their members have distributed an estimated 750,000 samples of endangered seeds not available through catalogs and often on the verge of extinction. SSE has always been the leader of the heirloom seed movement, and the diligent efforts of their members is making rare heirloom varieties available to gardeners everywhere.
Jackson & Perkins

Jackson & Perkins was founded in 1872, when Charles Perkins, with the financial backing of his father-in-law, A.E. Jackson, started up a modest enterprise wholesaling strawberries and grape plants from a farm in Newark, N.Y. Today, Jackson & Perkins is a full-service nursery offering all kinds of flowers, trees, shrubs, ground coverings, bulbs, decorative garden gifts, tools, garden accessories, plant care products and, of course roses. Over 3 million roses and other plants are shipped to customers every year.

The Harris Seeds Company began its catalog operation in 1879. It evolved from the efforts of Joseph Harris, an English immigrant who became extremely successful in the selection of superior strains of vegetables and grains. Remaining in Rochester, New York since 1879, Harris Seeds markets vegetable and Flower seeds as well as plants and growing supplies to gardeners and professional growers throughout the USA. In 1989, Seeds of Change started with a simple mission: to help preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable, organic agriculture.
